Why fresh and quality products are destroyed which can feed starving people?
Today no one in Russia knows the answer for this question. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, 250 tons of fruits and vegetables, 30 tons of dairy products especially cheeses were destroyed on August 6th. One day before 100 tons of pork illegally imported from European Union was burnt. Let’s recall that according to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s Decree of 29th of July, 2015, the products which were imported by fraudulent certificates from European Union shall be destroyed. Banned products are mainly imported from Belarus and Kazakhstan. Identified products are destroyed almost every day, in front of cameras.
Discontent is rising, especially in Saint Petersburg, the matter is people have not forgotten hunger during the times when they passed through blockade, and any justification of barbaric destruction is inacceptable and incomprehensible for them.
More than 300 thousand Russians have already signed a claim on a website Change.org against destruction of smuggled goods. The authors of the initiative propose to revoke the presidential decree, and give the products to needy citizens.
