Tamara Matinyan: “Age is not an obstacle to starting a new job”
65-year-old Tamara Matinyan from Stepanavan is a woman who unlike many peers, instead of enjoying deserved rest at this age decided to run business. She is sure that certain age cannot be an obstacle for starting a new business.
“For years I have been an administrative worker in Gyulagarak economy. I was the head of the personnel department, union president. I was forty years old when the economy dissolved. Shortly after it the factory where my husband was working closed. The two became unemployed. For years, we could not find a job. You know, people do not accept the 40-50-age to job. I could not sleep at night, I kept thinking, what can I do” ,-recalls Tamara Matinyan.
One day, she accidentally learned that Association of young women of Armenia implements programs for women. First she hesitated to apply or not. “To be honest at first I thought that maybe they need young women. When I learned that there is no age limit, I was very happy, I decided I would try, “she says.
Every day for a month, Ms. Tamara participated in sessions held in Tashir, during which they received initial skills needed for business activities. Her son and her husband were not taking her active participation in the courses seriously. But she did her best and succeeded.
