“Human rights watch” – the new report
On February 22d, presentation of new report of 2016 – “Human rights watch” on “Child rights abuses in orphanages of Armenia” was held at the “Media Center”. The reference was made to the obstacles existing in inclusive education and problems of children with disabilities. The study was conducted for the first time.
The press conference was attended by Deputy Director of «Human rights watch» in Europe and Central Asia, researcher and report author Jane Bukhanan, director of «Human rights watch» in South Caucasus part, researcher of the report Giorgi Gogia and 12-year-old Marie Minasyan who is disabled attends an inclusive school of Goris.
“We decided to conduct this study as it was the right time to consider what kind of progress in this area we have and what are the gaps and shortcomings by the Government in order to understand what lessons should be learned and the international legal standards,” said Giorgi Gogia.
The study was conducted with more than 170 individual interviews in 8 cities of Armenia. Yerevan, Kapan, Goris, Vanadzor, Gyumri, Armavir, Hatsik and Chambarak.
