Gohar Sargsyan: “I will fight as long as I live”
Nominated for municipal elections as a candidate from “purple Earth” party Gohar Sargsyan can be met every Thursday in front of the government building, where the mothers of soldiers killed in peaceful conditions, are demanding a fair investigation of the circumstances of the death of their children. Gohar is one of those mothers. Nearly 10 years after street protests, she decided to change the shape from inside trying to resolve the issues.
I am still not a member of the party, but when I received the offer from “Yerkir Tirani” party, I agreed because I believe in that political force and its leader. Over the past 10 years, I’m struggling to find out my son’s death and punish the only person who was on our side of struggling mothers was Zaruhi Postanjyan. I have no reason not to trust the preciseness of her fight for establishing justice in the country”, – says Gohar.
At present, according to her, the only opposition force in the political arena is the “Yerkir Tirani” party. She run to prove that even with non- political elections it is possible change the culture and situation in the country.
Yes, they say that the municipal elections are not political, but let’s look at the situation from another perspective. Why are ideological people fighting? – For the sake of justice. Now what you want to say, that there is no injustice or corruption in the municipality while making decisions? Of course there is. We see it every day. The struggle for justice cannot be distinguished as political or apolitical. We will start from Yerevan. When people see that, at least here, there is a reduction in corruption in state institutions, criminals are punished, and situation will change. Other example – there are 1,500 soldiers who died in peace. This number is approximate only. Some of the mothers are coming to protests – only 5-6 only. I’m sure if we were a large number, we would attain justice easier”, – she says.
