The world average of women’s representation in parliaments is 23.4%
According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union latest data, women’s representation in parliaments of the world on average makes 23.4 percent. The average rate in OSCE countries is 26.6%. The parliamentary participation of women in the Arab world accounts for 18.9%. Representation of women in the National Assembly of Armenia has become 18%, thanks to this index, Armenia has improved its position in the rating list of the Inter-parliamentary Union, occupying the 110th place out of 193, instead of 160 in the previous chapter. The representation of women in parliament in elections of last year is 16% in Georgia and 16.8% in Azerbaijan according to the election results of 2015.
Let’s note that 19.1% or 53 out of 278 speakers of parliaments of the world are women. 158 out of 595 parliament members holding the position of deputy chairman or 26.6% are women. In total, 102 out of 230 houses of parliaments of 172 countries have at least one woman deputy speaker.
