“Why mayor of Paris may be female, but that of Yerevan – may not.” blitz among men

On Sunday residents of Yerevan will elect city council members and a new mayor as a consequence. There are three candidates, including Zaruhi Postanjyan, whom many people really imagine in a role of a mayor and are going to choose “Yerkir Tirani” party led by her.  WomenNet.am conducted a poll among several politicians, the public and cultural figures a little known to the public to find out what opinion is, what the attitude men have towards the prospect of having a female mayor. Opinions were divided, which means that the stereotypes are still relevant, and at least half of the surveyed men are not ready to give up their positions, even the automobile wheel…

 

“The public is ready for it.”

 

 “Yes, we do not have a woman mayor, but have nearly two dozen women community leaders, who by their example, proved that not only could be the leader of the community, but it’s very welcomed because the community will benefit from it. If a woman is professional, managerial and has professional skills then the prospect of seeing her as the head of the community is welcomed. We have communities that women are in charge of the budget and comparing with other communities whose leaders are men, I can say that in many ways the comparison is sometimes not in their favor. And the public is ready for it and I am always surprised by the questions of whether society will accept their nomination. Why mayor of Paris may be female, but that of Yerevan – no?
