“Let’s hand in the government to women in order to have peace.”
On September 8th, the fifth award ceremony of “Young Women’s Peace Award in the Caucasus,” was held in Yerevan, organized by the “Democracy Today” NGO.
This year the award expanded its geography, because as said Gulnara Shahinian/ The president of “Democracy Today” NGO ” peace is necessary not only in the Caucasus but also throughout the world. Among yesterday’s winners of the Syrian Ghaita Odate, who represents the “Syrian Women for Democracy” Coalition. The coalition has made great efforts in bringing together conflicting parties of Syria around the negotiating table.
“Syrian women are deserving this award, because they, despite all the losses and pain, still believe in justice and peace,” said Ghaita Odate in her speech.
She said in an interview with WomenNet- that she had deep conviction that any conflict should be solved peacefully, because the country’s future depends on it.
