“The army continues to be hyper-masculine structure everywhere”
For participation in the conference “After Genocide: From Trauma to Rebirth: A gendered perspective representatives from a number of experts, with two of them WomenNet- had a chance to talk about wartime gender-based violence, as well as expectations in terms of participation of women in the armed forces. Our questions are answered by the director of the French organization «Women in War» Carol Mann (pictured, left) and the professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Turkish-Armenian Lerna Ekmekchioghlu.
Carol Mann. “Gender violence is, of course, important to us and will be referred to during the conference. We do not have a separate topic, but will be reflected in almost all subjects. There will be speakers who will be nothing in a very specific way and not theoretically “.
Lerna Ekmekchioghlu: “I am very interested in gender-based violence, particularly in children born as a result of rape – in a word, children of war. This is a major problem in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These babies were born and raised, and their fathers are considered enemies of the nation.
