Transport tickets in Berlin to discounted for women by 21%

The BVG transport company in Berlin on March 18th  will announce the discount on  tariff for women by 21 percent, drawing attention to the difference between salaries of men and women, DV agency reports.

The problem is that the average wage difference between men and women in Germany is just 21 percent. The spokeswoman for the BVG transport company, Petra Nelken, said 18th  that on March women will be able to get a discounted ticket on Berlin metro, paying 5.5 euros instead of 7 euros.

The problem of women and men’s salary difference is very relevant in Germany because it is almost the highest in the European countries. Significant progress is observed in 2010, the difference was 23 percent, and in 2018 – 21 percent. It is not accidental that the 77th day of the year was chosen to draw attention to the problem, so the woman should work so much more so as to receive as much salary as the man receives during the year.
