The female director won the Oscar this year

 

Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland (2020) won the Academy Award for Best Picture at the 93rd Academy Awards. Chloe Zhao was named “Best Director”.

 

Chloe Zhao became the second woman in the history of the “Oscar” to receive this award for best director, the first being in 2010 Catherine Bigelow with “The Lord of the Storm”.

 

Chloe Zhao’s film “The Country of Nomads” tells the story of a woman who is forced to wander around the country after losing her job. Zhao dedicated his success to all those people who, even in the most difficult times, have the courage to see only the good in everything.

 

Francis McDormand, who played the main character in the film, won the Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role. This is the sixth Oscar nomination for the American actress and the third victory.

 

Director Chloe Zhao has previously received the US Directors Guild Award for Outstanding Nomination for “Nomadic Land.” In addition, she was awarded the Golden Globe for Best Director.

 

The award for Best Original Screenplay went to British actress and director Admiral Fennel for her screenplay for Promising Girl.

 

Anthony Hopkins was named best actor for his role as a demented elderly man in “Father.” Hopkins, 83, became the oldest actor to win an Oscar.

 

It should be noted that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the award ceremony was held this year in front of a relatively small audience with the participation of 170 guests.
